- “Bathtub” model: water spreads to ground lower than the water level that is connected to the bay or ocean. It ignores waves, wind setup, how long the high tide lasts, pumps and tide valves.
- Seawalls: the map assumes harbor bulkheads and seawalls hold to about 8.5 ft MLLW. Real wall heights vary block by block, and some private walls are lower, so orange areas can flood sooner.
- Terrain: USGS 3DEP bare-earth lidar (resampled to ~2.7 m / 9 ft cells), so curbs, thin walls and recent sand berms may be missed. Vertical accuracy is roughly ±0.3–0.5 ft.
- Datum: ft above MLLW at NOAA Newport Bay station 9410580, where NAVD88 is 0.18 ft above MLLW.
- Rain ponding is a simple low-spot index, not a drainage model.
